Baby weight and height: reading the trend
It's natural to watch the scale closely. But a single number rarely tells the story — what matters is a steady curve over time, following your baby's own path.
What growth looks like
- Newborns often lose a little weight in the first days, then regain it by about 2 weeks.
- Growth comes in spurts, not a smooth line — flat days are normal.
- Your baby's own trend matters more than any one measurement.
Percentiles: being on the 10th or 90th line isn't good or bad — staying roughly on the same line over time is the reassuring signal.
Why track growth
- See the trend between checkups instead of guessing.
- Compare against WHO percentiles for context.
- Bring a clear history to your pediatrician.
