Baby teething: order, symptoms and tracking
The first tooth is a milestone — and often a few rough nights. Knowing the usual order and marking each tooth as it appears helps you see progress and share it with family.
The usual order
- Lower central incisors: usually first, around 6–10 months.
- Upper central incisors: around 8–12 months.
- Lateral incisors, first molars, canines, second molars follow through toddlerhood.
Wide range: some babies get a first tooth at 3 months, others after their first birthday. Both are normal.
Common signs
- More drooling, chewing and gum rubbing.
- Fussiness and disrupted sleep for a day or two around a tooth.
- A mild rise in temperature can occur — a high fever is not caused by teething; check with your doctor.
